THE FOLLOWING IS TAKEN FROM THE CURRENT ISSUE OF OUR INTERNATIONAL PAPER 'UNREFORMED'.

Dear Brethren in Christ Jesus,

Just three days following the funeral of Anne Pointon I began my journey to El Paso. The purpose of my visit was twofold: to conduct a Visitation of the Diocese of Rio Grande, and to consecrate Father Ralph Turner of Sweden to the episcopate. I have to say that both of those purposes were entirely blessed.

The Diocese of Rio Grande under the leadership of Bishop Jose Santiago continues to be an example to the whole of this Church, not only in its pastoral care for the poor and under privileged, but equally for its tremendous outreach to those many folk who are as sheep without a shepherd. People quite literally flock to the Church of San Francisco de Asis as well as to the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, both of which are situated in the City of El Paso. In Bishop Santiago the lost sheep have found a true and caring shepherd.

Furthermore, we now have received the permission  from the government of Mexico to begin the vital task of officially extending our missionary outreach into Mexico.

However, the highlight of my visit was the Episcopal consecration of Bishop Ralph Turner. Bishop Lawrence, Episcopal Visitor to the Diocese of America, travelled from San Antonio for the consecration, and he, together with Bishop Jose Santiago acted as co-consecrators.

Although, the consecration Mass was the second Sung Mass of the day, the Church of San Francisco de Asis was duly filled with worshipers. Bishop Garner preached, as usual, an inspiring sermon.

Bishop Turner is titled as the Assistant Bishop in the Archdiocese of Europe with special responsibility for the evangelisation of Sweden. Thus a great task lies before him, and I ask you to offer your prayers for him, that the God the Holy Spirit may be his guide, and that the Lord will add to His Catholic Church in Sweden those who are to be saved.
