A RECENT LETTER FROM BISHOP LULAMILE TO READERS OF 'UNREFORMED'
(PLEASE NOTE: THE PHOTOGRAPHS BELOW WERE TAKEN AT EASTER 2007 - NOT AS GIVEN ON THE PHOTOGRAPHS! )
We greet all the Unreformed readers in that Holy Name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
We are the Easter people and indeed this is reflected in the decoration of the sanctuary and the use of white vestments by priests, symbolizing joy and purity. The paschal candle will shine in the sanctuary until Ascension Day as a symbol of the visible presence of our Lord upon earth. There is a resounding of joyful alleluias which were omitted since Septuagesima, “this is the day which the Lord hath made; let us celebrate it with transports of joy”.
These were the lay readers and the clergy who celebrated the Easter with me on the 08th of April in Grahamstown.
“If Christ be not risen again your faith is vain.” Christ confounded all His enemies by clothing in glory and splendor that body which had been the victim of the cruelty of man. Christ’s triumph over death is the most conclusive proof of His Divinity and the foundation of our FAITH – this is worth repeating.

Oh Lord, you have probed me and you know me; you know when I sit and when I stand. Alleluia.

Bishop Lulamile ordaining four men into the sub diaconate.

I wish you can hear the sound as we were celebrating Easter and look at that Paschal Candle as if it were watching over us .Alleluia, people to the Paschal victim offer your thankful praises.
Death and life have contended in that combat stupendous: The Prince of life, who died, reigns immortal.

St Mary Magdalene Parish, Cape Town
I greet everyone in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
The St Mary Magdalene Parish in Cape Town, South Africa has declared 2006 as the year of giving. This is one aspect in our Christian life that we are not taking seriously. We recite all scripture verses which tell us of how blessed we are.
We are too familiar with what is written by the prophet Malachi 3:8-10 " Will a man rob God?. Yet ye have robed me. Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and in offerings.......... " (v8). On top of our budget list are personal luxurious things which are temporal, but God knows our needs and He even goes on to dare us to test Him to see if He will pour out a blessing that we wont even have room enough to receive it. (v10)
We need to " trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding." (Prov.3:5). We need to take God on his Word. We give because we love God. Giving should not be a burden. We should plan ahead what we want to to give our loving Father and always remember that God "loves a cheerful giver".
"Give and it will be given unto you, a good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you meet, it will be measured to you again."
We are not repaying God but there must be food in the house of the Lord. The pews we seat on, the Eucharist that blesses us draws from this fountain of tithing.
Let us be assured that giving is a sign of love, think of what God has done for us out of love. "For God so loved the world that he gave His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life".
May God bless you all

(17th January 2006)
In the Name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ we greet you all.
After our trip to UK last October we had a very busy period preparing for our Diocesan Conference. The unfortunate part was that two of our Archdeacons (Theo and Max) decided to look the other way, they wanted urgently to be consecrated as my assistant bishops, and their marriage status as divorced men be overlooked or else they would hold the whole Diocese into a "stand still" - they failed. On the 6th January 2006 they had their "conference" with two of the twelve parishes, hence their Deposition and they are no longer members of this church.
Our conference was officially opened by our Bishop Ordinary Lulamile Lamani on the 6th January 2006, the Feast of the Epiphany. The theme was taken from the book of Psalms, chapter 80 verse 14
“Turn thee again, thou God of hosts, look down from heaven, behold, and visit this vine.”To sum up his sermon the bishop quoted St Ambrose -
“In the book of Psalms, the way for progress for all men is to be found, and there lies the medicine for the health of all. Whosoever read the Psalms, will find the way to cure wounds of one’s own defects with a specific prescription. Whoever takes the trouble to read the Psalms will find, as on a training ground for virtues, various kinds of exhibitions. And one can choose for oneself, whatever one considers most suitable. What is suitable for us? The prize is thus within one’s grasp.”…. “In this psalm we are set alight by longing of that sacred love.”For our church today I would like to echo again the words of St Ambrose
…. When one reads psalms “anger is tempered, worry rejected, sadness taken way. It is a weapon at night, a teacher in the day; a shield in fear, a celebration in holiness, an image of serenity, a foretaste of peace and concordance, like a zither which produces just one melody from a variety of disparate sounds.”The wild boar of David
’s time is still around in many guises, it even owns a website and is able to fly around the world. The only weapon we need to use against it are these words… “Look down, from heaven, behold, and visit this vine (church).”The spirit of all delegates in attendance was uplifting, we could feel the Presence of the Holy Spirit. The drizzling summer rain did not stop people from attending the conference in numbers. On the same day the bishop was asked to sign the deed of sale of the site for the Grahamstown parish.
The following day being Saturday a new fund raising bid was launched and it received great support from all delegates, pledges were received and the day
’s target was met. The following parishes attended the conference:-St Peter
St Barnabas King, [ KwaMasingatha].
Balasi near Kingwilliamstown.
Christ the King, Grahamstown.
St Thomas, Grahamstown.
St Michael
’s and All Angels, Grahamstown.St Mary the Virgin, Port Elizabeth.
St Mary Magdalene, Cape Town
St Matthews, Port Elizabeth.
St Augustine, Uitenhage.
We thank God for the loyalty the people have shown to the Church. Our next Diocesan conference will be hosted by St Augustine in Uitenhage, beginning from 4th - 7th January 2007.
The year plan was given out by the Bishop at the conference for all parishes.
On the 5th March 2006 the Bishop will be visiting the two new church sites in Grahamstown.
We bless you all from our ever vibrant Diocese of Umzi WaseTiyopiya.
Yours in Christ’s service

A REPORT FROM THE BISHOP ORDINARY
Greetings from the Diocese of Umzi Waze Tiyopiya,
T
he month of July was a period of revival for the youth in our Diocese and old folks undertook that wonderful sentimental spiritual journey. The theme of Assembly taken from the book of Nehemiah 5. 14:18 as he addresses the people, he calls on them to evaluate their situation. "You see the bad situation we are in." "Come," he says "let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem that we may no longer be a reproach "Nehemiah is a wise leader; he knows that the goals he sets for the people must be attainable. And so to his challenge he adds encouragement. He informs them how the good hand of God has been favourable to him." By pointing them away from their fears to the Lord he fixes their minds on what God is doing for them and they, realized afresh that God is on their side. Their response was: "Let us arise and build!" These were the exact words echoed by, our Holy Innocent Youth Guild as we bid farewell to each other after that four days convention. The new executive was elected to go out and spread the WORD.
The month of August started very well for us, because a new Parish was born in Uitenhage a town renowned for its VW motor car factory 23 km outside Port Elizabeth. It was dedicated to St Augustine of Hippo. We received a priest and a congregation of 50 people from one of the Continuing Anglicans, this happened when we were celebrating the Assumption of Our Lady.
The last Sunday of August was the Diocesan August Memorial day and the Sermon was taken from the Epistle of the day Romans 13. 12 "'The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and put on the armour of light. "And St Augustine confessed that he was converted by, reading and pondering this text.
EVENTS
On the 11th September 2005, St. Matthew’s parish will be relocated to its new place in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth, where a pre-school hall is rented. The bishop will be visiting the parish of St. Mary in Cape on the same Sunday.
St Mary Magdalene Moths Union is busy doing their finishing touches bi-annual diocesan convention in Port Elizabeth 22nd - 25th September 2005.
With every blessing

Our diocese has 12 parishes, 8 priests, 14 deacons and 2 postulants; we are receiving enquirers on a weekly basis. The photographs which were taken recently will bare witness to the fact that a ‘storm in a tea cup’ did not kill the spirit of the people.
The St Luke's and St Matthew’s are our two archdeaconries with Venerable T. M. Mfazwe and Venerable M. Mabophe as archdeacons respectively.
EVENTS
On the 27 April 2005 and 02 May 2005 we had a clergy school day which was a spiritually enriching course for our clerics and their wives. On the 18 June 2005 we will conduct Sunday school workshops for all diocesan Sunday school teachers.
During the month of July it will be the Holy Innocent Youth Guild convention where our youth will be showing their artistic talents and verse speaking from our Sunday school kids.
The month of August is a red letter month for us we call it August Memorial where we celebrate our heritage by wearing the traditional dresses; it is a month our founder James Mata Dwane was ordained as a deacon and a month our diocese received the fullness of the Faith.
On the 28 August 2005 it will be the Diocesan Memorial Day.
The Mary Magdalene Mothers Union will hold its bi-annual diocesan convention in Port Elizabeth from the 22 - 25 September 2005 and will conclude by a farewell service of the delegates to the October Synod/General Conference.

– this is what kept us going. With every blessing
